Introducing Tucking - A wonderfully calming alternative healing therapy that promotes relaxation7/17/2016 What is tucking ? Tucking is a wonderful and simple alternative healing therapy which promotes the relaxation response and has a profound calming effect. It is not in the Hawaiian tradition nor is it related to Kahuna bodywork, however I have been working on this technique and believe that is a welcome addition and can be ideal for some clients. In particular, clients who may be touch averse; like victims of abuse or others for whom some forms bodywork may be too intense. Tucking can be a wonderful alternative or a bridge to other forms of bodywork. Tucking is a gentle non invasive relaxation therapy with components of a guided meditation. It can be performed fully clothed or with draping, and is ideal for someone who may have experienced abuse, trauma, be touch averse or just looking for a very simple, comforting experience. Designed to calm the sympathetic nervous system and activate the parasympathetic response tucking is as simple as it sounds - it involves swaddling the contours of the body with linens and supporting the joints so that there is full and complete contact. This is a proven method of promoting safety security and relaxation. It can be observed in little puppies and little babies, when they tuck up against a wall or their parent to create a large field of contact. From there a silent but guided contact by the practitioner follows at certain and specific points on the body. This contact further induces a deeper state of relaxation and can be said that this is the point where an exchange of energy can occur. Often times the pulse of the practitioner and the client can be mutually felt and put into sync. The slow ritual like removal of the linens can create a sensation that one is suspended or floating briefly. Please share your complete medical history so that your therapist can ensure you are given the most effective treatment possible.
